AltSwitch at the YGG Web3 Games Summit 2023: A Glimpse into the Future of Gaming and Digital Ownership

Last November 17–25, 2023, the gaming and tech world converged at the YGG Web3 Games Summit held in the bustling city of BGC, Taguig, Philippines. It was a landmark event, not just for the gaming community but for the entire Web3 ecosystem. Among the distinguished attendees were AltSwitch’s co-founders, Carl Munsayac and Kaye Labay, marking a significant presence at this groundbreaking summit.

A Pivotal Meeting Before the Summit

Before diving into the summit’s core, our co-founders had the privilege of meeting with Ian Utile, a notable tech entrepreneur from Silicon Valley, an 8x co-founder, 4x Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR), and a co-producer of major events like NFT.NYC and CES. His collaboration with IP3 has curated a top-tier ecosystem at the crossroads of Web3 and global entertainment. Our co-founders shared a meal with Ian and some of the top Filipino Web3 influencers, including Giu Comia, CryptoPareh, and Proftoff. This gathering highlighted the growing significance of the Philippines in Web3 spaces and the vital role of influencers in shaping global entertainment.

The Summit at Shangri-La Hotel, BGC

The afternoon marked our co-founders’ arrival at the Shangri-La Hotel in BGC, the epicenter of the YGG Web3 Games Summit. The event was a melting pot of ideas and innovations, showcasing the intersection of gaming and the emerging Web3 ecosystem. Highlights included a game jam hackathon, a conference brimming with insights, a game expo, and highly competitive esports tournaments.

This summit wasn’t just about showcasing the latest in gaming; it was a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences. Attendees had the opportunity to connect, offering valuable insights into the future of gaming, digital ownership, and the prominent projects shaping the Web3 world.

Networking with Industry Leaders

At the event, we had the honor of meeting some of the most influential figures in the Web3 gaming space. This included Jihoz, the founder of Axie Infinity;

Corey Wilton, founder of Pegaxy and MiraiLabs;

and the co-founders of Surgence, Vinh and Mia. These encounters provided invaluable insights and potential collaborations, further solidifying AltSwitch’s position in the Web3 community.

Surgence Builders Mixer Night in Poblacion, Makati

The day following the summit, the Surgence family hosted a Builders Mixer Night in Poblacion, Makati, an official side event of the YGG Web3 Games Summit. Our co-founders attended this event to show support for the Surgence team and network with other prominent figures in the industry. The night was an excellent opportunity for mingling with projects based in Indonesia, Japan, and other leading Web3 companies in Asia. It underscored the global nature of the Web3 community and the potential for international collaborations. (We wish we’ve met Ruthy in-person too.)

The YGG Web3 Games Summit was more than just an event; it was a harbinger of the exciting developments unfolding in the world of gaming and digital ownership.
